Türkiye kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Georgia on Tuesday, racking up 56% possession and 22 shots in the process.
Real Madrid’s teenage sensation Arder Guler netted a stunning long-range goal last time out, before substitute Kerem Akturkoglu completed the scoring in stoppage time.
When you look at the bigger picture, that victory ended a five-game winless run for Türkiye, who recorded two draws and three losses in the lead-up to the tournament.
Having failed to make it past the group stage at Euro 2016 and Euro 2020, Türkiye will be eager to build on their opening victory this weekend.
Meanwhile, Portugal came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win against the Czech Republic in their first match, with Francisco Conceicao scoring the winner in the 92nd minute.
Despite racking up 74% possession and 19 shots, Roberto Martinez’s men struggled to make the most of their dominance, leaving it late to claim all three points.
Portugal have now won 13 of their last 15 matches across all competitions, securing 10 victories in 10 games to achieve the only 100% record in Euro 2024 qualifying.
It is also worth noting that Portugal have not drawn any of their previous 26 clashes, picking up 21 wins and five draws along the way.
