We have reached the second round of fixtures in Group D of the 2024 European Championship and two teams are battling for their first points of the tournament.

The game between Poland and Austria will be played on the 21st of June at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. The Poles are currently in third place on 0 points while the Austrians are bottom of the group, also on 0 points.

Poland come into the match having lost 2-1 to Netherlands in their opening Group D match. Poland took a shock lead in the 16th minute but did not hold the advantage for long as Netherlands struck back 13 minutes later. Into the second half and Poland were close to getting a point but Netherlands scored the winner 7 minutes from time.

The defeat to Netherlands was the first loss for Poland in 9 games in all competitions. There were victories at the Faroe Islands and at home to Estonia in European Championship qualifying.

There was also a penalty shootout win over Wales in the playoff final. Poland beat Ukraine and Türkiye in friendlies prior to the tournament.

Trends show Poland have struggled to win games in the European Championship and they have failed to win any of their last 6 fixtures in the competition inside 90 minutes. You must go back to Euro 2016 to find the last time Poland won a match in the European Championship.

Austria travel to the Olympiastadion having suffered a 1-0 defeat in their first group match against France. It was always going to be a tough start to the competition for Austria against one of the favourites and they conceded the only goal of the game in the 38th minute.

The defeat to France was the first loss in 8 games for Austria. There were victories in Azerbaijan and Estonia in European Championship qualifying plus wins over Germany, Slovakia, Türkiye, and Serbia in friendlies.

Statistics show Austria are another team who have struggled for wins at the European Championship. They have recorded only 2 wins in their last 11 appearances in the competition.

The victories came over North Macedonia and Ukraine in the 2021 edition but there have been 3 defeats in their last 4 European Championship fixtures. Austria have seen under 2.5 goals scored in 3 of their 5 most recent games in the competition.

Team news and Poland will be hoping Robert Lewandowski is fit enough to start the match. If not, Adam Buksa will continue in attack for the Poles.

Austria are likely to name an unchanged starting XI from the game against France. David Alaba is unavailable for the whole competition due to a knee injury.

Both teams will be pleased with the way their played in the opening game but the fact is they lost and need something from this match. This is the match both teams will have targeted for a win but we predict little in the way of goals.

In fact, our algorithm suggests this could be one of few games in the group stage that finishes 0-0.
