Scotland have been a surprise package in Euro 2024 qualifying. The Scots are second to Spain due to goal difference after six matches.

Manager Steve Clarke has worked wonders with the Scottish national team. The Tartan Army have already qualified for the Euro finals next summer. However, Clarke can do even better and lead the team to first place in Group A.

A win over Georgia could send Scotland into first place, but they would need Spain to slip up in Cyprus on Thursday night.

It is unlikely that Spain will drop points. Therefore, Scotland’s hopes of winning Group A could go down to the final group-stage matches versus Norway.

Georgia can still finish third in the group and advance to the Euro 2024 playoffs. It would be a massive accomplishment for Georgia to end the group stage in third and qualify for the playoffs.

The Georgians took seven points from the opening six games. They are just three points behind third-place Norway.

However, Georgia have played one fewer game than Norway and could leapfrog the Norwegians. The Crusaders would need to win at home against Scotland to improve their playoff hopes.

Scotland and Georgia met five times previously in all competitions. Georgia actually have a decent record against the Scots, winning twice and losing on three occasions.

The teams first met in 2007, with Scotland winning 2-1. Later that year, Georgia returned the favour, winning 2-0.

In 2014, Scotland again defeated Georgia, this time by a score of 1-0. However, Georgia again won the reverse fixture, also by a 1-0 score.

The teams met earlier this year in Euro 2024 qualifying in Group A. The match finished 2-0 for Scotland. Callum McGregor and Scott McTominay scored the goals for Scotland.

Georgia go into Thursday’s home match in form. They won their last two games, defeating Thailand 8-0 and Cyprus 4-0. Unfortunately, neither of those national teams are world powers.

But perhaps this is the time to play Scotland. The Scots lost their last three internationals, losing to England, Spain, and France. In comparison to Georgia’s recent matches, those were games against world powers in football.

Clarke won’t have captain Andrew Robertson available. The Liverpool left-back is out with a should injury. Clarke will have midfielder McTominay available. The Man United player scored six goals in Euro qualifying, which is tied with Norway’s Haaland.

Scotland should see off Georgia away from home by a score of 2-0. McTominay will fancy a seventh goal in qualifying.
