Austria and Azerbaijan will kick off their Euro 2024 qualifiers with a meeting at the Ernst Happel Stadium as Ralf Rangnick looks to carry on the positive form shown towards the end of last season after two wins during the World Cup.

Austria were forced to stay at home after failing to qualify for the World Cup, but they did manage to put together two wins and keep two clean sheets in friendly matches during the finals in Qatar.

They first travelled to Andorra where Marko Arnautovic scored a late goal in a game that stunningly saw Austria have 81% of ball possession and 23 shots.

Worryingly, however, they did only have one shot on target in the game. Rangnick's side then went on to beat Italy in arguably the former Manchester United manager's best result with the nation, as Xaver Schlager and David Alaba scored a goal each in the game.

Austria were dreadful in their Nations League campaign, however, as they won only one game, drew another and lost four times by conceding 10 goals and scoring six.

Worse yet, Austria's only win came in a 3-0 win away to Croatia on matchday one, meaning they ended up going on a five-game winless streak.

Azerbaijan also managed to win their two games during the World Cup, as they firstly defeated Moldova in a 2-1 away trip that saw Emin Mahmudov and Aleksey Isayev score a goal each.

They then travelled to North Macedonia and came from behind to win 3-1, as Elvin Cafguliyev, Musa Qurbanli and Ramil Sheydayev scored a goal each just as Hojlat Haghverdi.

This now means Azerbaijan have now gone on a five-game winning run, as they also defeated Belarus, Slovakia and Kazakhstan in their final three games of the Nations League.

In the Nations League, Azerbaijan finished second and three points behind Kazakhstan after losing twice, winning three and drawing the other game with seven goals scored. They did, however, have one of the best defensive records across all Nations League groups with just four goals let in.

There are no major injuries for Austria heading into these few games this international break, and stars like Chris Baumgartner, Marcel Sabitzer, Alaba and Stefan Posch are all able to play.

Austria's form has been topsy-turvy over the past two years. They should, however, have the edge over Azerbaijan in this one and Forebet predicts a win for Austria and for the game to see over 2.5 goals
