The Netherlands, Senegal, England and USA all booked their place in the last 16 of the World Cup on Tuesday. On the flip side, Ecuador, Qatar, Iran and Wales played their final game of the tournament.

Marcus Rashford stole the headlines, bagging a beautiful brace to help the Three Lions beat Wales 3-0. There were also goals for Cody Gakpo, Christian Pulisic and Phil Foden on Day 10. Here’s a look at all the key talking points.

Senegal Beat Ecuador to Advance From Group A

Senegal booked their place in the last 16 with a spirited victory over Ecuador. Despite seeing just 38% possession, the reigning champions of Africa managed to make the most of their chances.

Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time, with Moises Caicedo equalising for Ecuador midway through the second half. Three minutes later, however, Kalidou Koulibaly scored to wrap up the win for Senegal.

Netherlands Win to Ensure Qatar Exit Without a Point

Cody Gakpo scored for the third successive game as the Netherlands beat Qatar 2-0 to top Group A. In the early stages of the second half, Frenkie de Jong found the back of the net to seal the deal for the Dutch.

Unfortunately for Qatar, they finished rock bottom of Group A without a single point to their name. The hosts created a handful of chances at Al-Bayt Stadium, but they failed to sign off on a positive note.

Pulisic Sends USA Through as Iran Head Home

Christian Pulisic’s 38th-minute goal gave the United States a narrow victory over Iran at Al-Thumama Stadium, meaning the Stars and Stripes advanced to the knockout phase while eliminating their opponents.

Iran managed a solitary attempt on target throughout the game, while the USA racked up 12 shots – five of which were on target. Sadly, Iran’s World Cup campaign ended without any real fight.

Three Lions Roar to Victory Over Tame Dragons

England were forced to wait until the second half to flex their muscles against Wales. But when the Three Lions came out after the break, they cruised to a dominant 3-0 victory over the Dragons.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick before Phil Foden converted Harry Kane’s cross soon after. On 68 minutes, Rashford scored his second and England’s third to send Gareth Southgate’s side into the last 16.
