With the European Championship set to kick off in Germany in the coming days, Forebet looks at the top contenders for the Golden Boot.

Cristiano Ronaldo won the award at Euro 2020, scoring five goals in four games for Portugal. Who will reign supreme this time around? Here are the top contenders:

    Kylian Mbappe – France

Fresh from announcing his move to Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe is ready to shine at his fourth major tournament with France.

Mbappe clinched the 2022 World Cup Golden Boot, scoring eight goals in seven matches, including a hat-trick in the final.

The 25-year-old has already netted 47 goals in 78 appearances for his country, and he bagged 256 goals in 308 games for Paris Saint-Germain before departing.

    Harry Kane – England

Harry Kane is an international goal machine. The England captain has scored 63 goals in 90 games for the Three Lions, underlining his consistency.

Despite missing out on silverware, Kane enjoyed an excellent debut season at Bayern Munich, racking up 44 goals in 45 matches across all competitions.

France and England are the bookies’ pre-tournament favourites to lift the Euro 2024 trophy, so Kane could challenge Mbappe for the top-scorer prize.

    Cristiano Ronaldo – Portugal

Even at the age of 39, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to score goals at a frightening rate, with the veteran megastar bagging 44 in 45 for Al-Nassr in 2023-24.

The former Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus forward holds many records, including the most goals scored in men’s international football.

Having netted an outrageous 128 goals in 206 appearances for Portugal, Ronaldo still has what it takes to dominate the scoring charts.

    Romelu Lukaku – Belgium

Romelu Lukaku’s international record speaks for itself. In 114 appearances for Belgium, the 31-year-old has scored 83 goals.

At Euro 2020, Lukaku bagged four goals in five games, although Belgium’s “golden generation” flattered to deceive on the biggest stage once again.

The Red Devils have been placed in a favourable group this time around, alongside Ukraine, Slovakia and Romania. Can Lukaku punish his opponents?

    Jude Bellingham – England

To say that Jude Bellingham enjoyed a successful debut season at Real Madrid would be a colossal understatement.

The 20-year-old Englishman notched 23 goals and 13 assists in 42 games for Los Blancos, winning La Liga and the Champions League for good measure.

Although Bellingham has scored only three goals in 29 appearances for his country, he looks destined to light up the tournament in Germany.
