The 2024 European Championship is upon us. On Friday, June 14, host nation Germany will take on Scotland in Munich, raising the curtain on the month-long tournament.
England, France and Germany are the favourites to lift the trophy, followed by Portugal and Spain. Defending champions Italy are also in the mix, along with the Netherlands and Belgium.
Of course, predicting the outcome of an entire tournament is extremely difficult. That said, it is possible to use stats, trends and mathematics to make an educated prediction.
Here at Forebet, we utilize a unique statistical model to analyze football predictions. Our AI algorithm considers dozens of different factors to deliver the most probable result of any given event.
With the help of machine learning, we have predicted the outcome of Euro 2024. Starting at the group stage, we worked our way through the knockout phase before crowning the champions.
Our mathematical algorithm produced some intriguing outcomes. Certain low-profile teams exceeded expectations in the group stage, while several bigger nations made early exits during the knockouts.
Without further ado, here is Forebet’s Euro 2024 prediction.
Germany finished two points clear of Hungary and Switzerland in Group A, picking up one win and two draws to remain unbeaten. Meanwhile, Scotland finished bottom after failing to taste victory.
In Group B, Italy and Croatia clinched the top two places, with third-placed Spain drawing all three of their matches. As expected, Albania failed to make an impact, picking up a solitary point.
England were one of only two teams to win all three group games, with Gareth Southgate’s side also keeping three clean sheets in Group C. Second-placed Denmark claimed two victories, eliminating Slovenia and Serbia.
The Netherlands pushed France all the way in Group D, as both nations advanced to the knockout phase. After recording three draws, Austria finished above Poland to scrape into the last 16.
Group E favourites Belgium enjoyed an unbeaten start to their campaign, picking up two wins and one draw. Romania’s three draws were enough to eliminate Ukraine and Slovakia, who each failed to register a victory.
Portugal were the other team to post a 100% record during the group stage, finishing three points clear of Georgia in Group F. The Czech Republic also made it to the knockout phase, sending Turkey home.
Defending champions Italy kicked off the knockout phase by defeating Austria. Elsewhere, Germany kept their dreams of a home triumph alive by dispatching Denmark.
Euro 2016 winners Portugal suffered an earlier-than-expected exit, falling to neighbours Spain. Meanwhile, the Netherlands reached their eighth European Championship quarter-final by seeing off Romania.
Belgium and France also reached the quarter-finals, knocking out Switzerland and Georgia, respectively. England defeated the Czechs to maintain their 100% record, while Croatia extended their unbeaten run by overcoming Hungary.
Five of the eight quarter-finalists had previously lifted the European Championship trophy, but two former winners – Germany and Spain – were eliminated by Italy and the Netherlands this time around.
France reached the semi-finals for a fourth time, meaning Belgium fell short once again. In the other quarter-final, England got the better of Croatia to make amends for the 2018 World Cup semi-final failure in Russia.
The semi-finals served up two heavyweight showdowns between European giants. The Italians were aiming to reach the final for a fifth time, while the French were bidding for a fourth final appearance.
However, the Netherlands and England ended up reaching the showpiece. Both nations had previously featured in one European Championship final, with the Dutch winning in 1988 and the English losing in 2021.
Based on our mathematical algorithm and statistical model, the Netherlands and England will reach the final in Berlin on July 14. Could the Dutch double their tally of titles? Or would the Three Lions reign supreme?
Making amends for their final loss three years ago, England might be the winner in this year's European Championship claiming an impressive victory over the Netherlands to secure the silverware. Southgate’s side will remain unbeaten throughout the entire tournament, keeping multiple clean sheets along the way.
Forebet will be delivering regular Euro 2024 content both in the lead-up to and during the tournament, so be sure to keep an eye out for match previews, predictions and analysis in the coming weeks.
