The Champions League trophy returns to Wembley this weekend after 11 years since the last final was played out, ironically involving this weekend’s finalists, Borussia Dortmund.

Real Madrid are their dancer partner this weekend, and it will be the first time Real have played one of their 18 European Cup/Champions League finals at Wembley.

Let’s take a look at all the other finals in England’s capital.

    AC Milan 2-1 Benfica (1963)

This will be the third Champions League final to be played at the rebuilt Wembley, and this comes over 60 years since the first-ever Wembley final.

This was back in the European Cup days, with the 1962/63 final being just the eighth European Cup tournament. AC Milan were the victors that day, beating Benfica to win their first of soon-to-be seven European titles.

    Benfica 1-4 Manchester United (1968)

Just five years later and the European Cup was back at Wembley. Benfica were once again in attendance that day, but the headlines were stolen by Manchester United and their first-ever triumph in Europe.

This final is unquestionably one of the most famous, as this European Cup victory for United came within just 10 years of the Munich air disaster that killed eight of the Red Devils’ team members. This was also the first time an English club won the trophy.

    Ajax 2-0 Panathinaikos (1971)

Once again, just a few years passed before the European Cup turned its attention to London again, where Ajax won their first-ever European Cup. Stunningly, Panathinaikos shocked Europe by making it to the final that year.

    Liverpool 1-0 Club Brugge (1978)

Seven years on and Wembley once again played out the biggest club game of the season, as Liverpool looked to win back-to-back European Cups against Club Brugge.

In what was one of the most dominant decades of any team in history, Liverpool edged out a 1-0 win against Brugge, as Kenny Dalglish scored the winning goal.

    Manchester United 3-1 Barcelona (2011)

The first at the rebuilt Wembley Stadium, as United were once again in attendance.

This game is often remembered for the legendary Barcelona team that won 3-1 that day, as they put on one of the best final performances of all time.

Even Sir Alex Ferguson called that Barcelona team the best he had ever faced.

Bayern Munich 2-1 Borussia Dortmund (2013)

The most recent Wembley final and one that also saw Dortmund playing under the Wembley arch again.

However, BVB were stunned that day by a late Arjen Robben finish that won it for Bayern.
